Instrumentation
The UW Astronomy Department is involved in the design, construction, and testing of instruments and facilities used to make astronomical observations. This includes elements of optics, mechanical and electrical engineering, and software. Our department is heavily involved in building and upgrading instruments for the Apache Point Observatory, and designing next-generation capabilities for surveys including the Sloan Digital Sky Survey.
