Anastasios (Andy) Tzanidakis, is a final-year Astronomy Ph.D. candidate at the University of Washington. His research combines observational and algorithmic methods to discover and characterize rare stellar variability in large time-domain surveys, with a focus on unusual dimming events around Sun-like stars under the supervision of Prof. James Davenport and Prof. Eric Bellm. He was an active member of the data commissioning and alert production team for the Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), evaluating time-series features that will be delivered as part of LSST.
In addition, Andy served as the Director of the University of Washington Planetarium, leading public-facing astronomy programming and outreach.
